Deb’s love affair with yoga began almost twenty years ago, the very first time she stepped onto a yoga mat. Since then, her yoga practice has remained her constant companion throughout the ups and downs of life. A trained psychotherapist and plant based chef & cooking teacher, her initial 200 hour Yoga Alliance accredited yoga teacher training in ashtanga yoga felt like an obvious addition, one that marries well with her other disciplines. Since then she has gone on to follow her other yoga passions to train in restorative yoga with Anna Ashby, hot/tapasya yoga with Kristen Campbell, Yin Yoga with Norman Blair & yoga for women/yoga for hormonal balance and yoga for menopause with Petra Coveney, a training for which she was handpicked. Deb remains one of the very few teachers in the world to hold certification in Menopause Yoga. Before lockdown she began a training in accessible yoga which she hopes to be able to continue soon. Deb has also completed over 50 hours of training in Trauma Resilience, Embodied Yoga and social impact, a training which underpins all of her teaching. All of Deb's trainings have been accredited through Yoga Alliance. She is a member of Yoga Alliance Professionals.
Deb’s other passions include pranayama/breath work as well as yoga philosophy for which she continues to study extensively. Having studied modern languages at University, she is very interested in Sanskrit which she hopes to complete a degree in just as soon as time permits! She believes passionately in yoga being made accessible for all, regardless of age, background, physical ability or religious/spiritual belief & encourages her students to listen to their own inner teacher. She feels she is merely the guide, there to hold the space for her students.
Deb is known for her warm, inclusive, non judgemental teaching style with good humour and lightness thrown in to the mix. With the appreciation that everything is ever in flux, always changing, and so she encourages in her students a desire to maintain openness and curiosity for what arises. She steers away from micromanaging her students and instead aims to empower her students to find what might be best for their own unique bodies; what may be the right alignment for one body may not be the best choice for another.
Deb’s background in psychotherapy and nutrition marry well with her passion for teaching yoga. She teaches mindful movement and breath work to help regulate difficult emotions such as anxiety & overwhelm, in order to reach a state of more grounded wellbeing. Her sessions provide invaluable space and dedicated time for her students to be with themselves away from any expectation or judgement.
Deb is ever grateful to all of her wonderful teachers along the way & especially to her beloved and inspirational Joyce McMiken, Ryan Spielman, Anna Ashby, Kristen Campbell, Petra Coveney, Norman Blair & Mina Hosokawa.
